Conservation Officers Say RCMP Weren't Mistaken in Shooting Bear That Attacked 3 Year Old The recent bear attack in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, has left a trail of confusion and raised questions about the handling of wildlife emergencies by local authorities.
On August 9, a three year old girl was attacked by a black bear while playing on her family's deck, prompting an immediate response from the RCMP.
In a swift move, police officers shot and killed what they believed to be the offending bear. However, two days later, the B. C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) stated that the wrong bear had been killed.
